EJC’s DACA Project is Expanding Opportunity for Undocumented Youth

The Equal Justice Center’s Project on DACA and Immigration Reform is changing the lives of undocumented young people, empowering them to pursue new opportunities as full contributors to their communities.

DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is the historic immigration program started in the summer of 2012 by the Obama Administration for undocumented young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children and have grown up in U.S. communities and schools.

These young people are often called “Dreamers” because they are seeking full and permanent membership in their communities under the proposed DREAM Act.

In the meantime the DACA program allows qualified undocumented youth to gain freedom from fear of deportation, authorization to work and start careers, expanded opportunities for higher education, and a head start toward full legalization under the comprehensive immigration reform – including the DREAM Act – which lie just around the corner.

The Equal Justice Center has launched a bold plan to bring free DACA legal assistance to low-income immigrant youth in Central, North, and West Texas – including some remote regions that have not previously had access to this kind of legal assistance, information, and counseling. In addition to Austin and Central Texas is also bringing DACA assistance to the areas around Bryan-College Station, Temple, Waco, Abilene, Lubbock, and Amarillo .
